The Business Audit
You Keep Skipping

LaKeisha Journal + Business Tip @legacybuildher

"You do not need a consultant to tell you what is broken. Most of the time, you already know."

Journal Entry

On Sunday, we talked about Nehemiah going out in the dark to survey the broken walls before he said a single word about rebuilding them. He did not start with a launch plan. He started with an honest look at what was actually in front of him.

Most of us skipped that part.

We built first and assessed later — if we assessed at all. And now we are somewhere in the middle of a business we started with vision and energy, wondering why certain things feel harder than they should, why certain offers are not converting, and why we are exhausted by work that is supposed to feel like calling.

This Week's Business Tip

The Framework: Four Questions That Change Everything

Nehemiah did not walk the perimeter of Jerusalem asking complicated questions. He looked at what was in front of him with clear eyes and honest intention. The framework we are using today does the same thing. Four questions. Applied honestly. Across every area of your business.

Just because you already started does not mean it is too late to go back and survey the wall.

01 What's Broken?

What is not working the way it should — and has not been for a while? Not the thing you are hoping will turn around on its own. The thing that, if you are honest, you already know wouldn't work no matter how hard you try. Name it without defending it.

  • A client experience that starts strong and loses momentum midway
  • An offer you dread delivering but have not discontinued
  • A content strategy that produces effort but not engagement
  • A schedule that leaves no margin for what matters most
02 What's Working?

Before you fix what is broken, you need to know what to protect. What is producing real results — not just activity? What in your week gives you energy rather than draining it? What offer, system, or rhythm is running the way you designed it to?

A common audit mistake is tearing down the wall that is still standing. Know what does not need rebuilding before you pick up a hammer.

03 What's Missing?

What gap exists in your business that you have been working around instead of filling? What does your ideal client need that you are not currently offering? What system, support, or structure would change everything — if you finally built it?

Missing is different from broken. Broken things used to work. Missing things have never been there at all. Don't be afraid of gaps, even if you are unable to fill them right now.

04 What Needs to Go?

This is the hardest question for purpose-driven women, because we attach meaning to the things we build. But not everything you started deserves a seat at the table of where you are going.

What offer is misaligned with your zone of genius? What commitment is draining the capacity you need elsewhere? What are you holding onto out of sunk cost, not strategy?

Where to Run the Audit

These four questions are not abstract. Apply them to four specific areas of your business — and the one area most founders forget entirely.

Your Offers
Offer Audit
Broken

Is the offer converting? Is the delivery clear? Are clients getting the result it promises?

Working

Which offer do clients talk about most, return to, or refer others to?

Missing

Is there a gap between what clients need and what you are currently selling?

Needs to Go

Is there an offer you are still carrying that no longer reflects where you are or who you serve?

Your Systems
Systems Audit
Broken

What process requires your personal intervention every time it runs?

Working

What is automated, repeatable, and running without your attention?

Missing

Where are you doing work that a system should be doing?

Needs to Go

What tool or workflow are you paying for — in money or time — that no longer earns its place?

Your Client Experience
CX Audit
Broken

Where does the experience lose momentum or create confusion?

Working

What touchpoints are clients consistently responding well to?

Missing

What would make clients feel more supported, seen, or served?

Needs to Go

What part of your process is creating friction unrelated to the value you deliver?

Your Time — The Audit Most Founders Skip
Time Audit
Broken

Where are you consistently overextended — and what is it costing you personally?

Working

What boundaries, rhythms, or structures are protecting your capacity right now?

Missing

What margin — rest, reflection, creativity — have you been operating without?

Needs to Go

What obligation or habit is consuming time that belongs somewhere else?

You can always make more money. You cannot make more time. Audit it honestly.

The elders were right about this one.

The Zone of Genius Filter

Before you keep it, fix it, build it, or let it go — run it through this checklist.

  • Does this offer, system, or activity sit inside my zone of genius — or am I doing it because no one else has?
  • Does this energize me or drain me when I am doing it well?
  • Is this producing results proportional to the effort and time it requires?
  • If I removed this from my plate entirely, would my business or my clients suffer — or would I simply feel guilty for letting it go?
  • Is this mine to carry, or am I holding it because I have not yet built the system or found the person to hand it to?

Anything that fails this filter is not automatically gone — but it is a conversation you need to have with yourself and with God.

If you have not yet identified your zone of genius clearly, that is where the work begins. You cannot audit what you do not understand, and you cannot delegate what you have never named. Join the Legacy Circle to access the Zone of Genius Discovery Assessment.

Before You Launch or Pivot

If you are standing at the edge of a new launch, a new offer, a new direction — run this audit first. Not because the vision is wrong. But because a launch built on top of a broken system will break faster. A pivot that skips over what is missing will land in the same place.

Nehemiah did not start rebuilding the moment he arrived in Jerusalem. He surveyed first. And when he finally broke ground, he broke it with clarity — knowing what he was building, what he was repairing, and what needed to be rebuilt from the foundation up. That is the kind of launch that holds.

Journal Prompt

"What part of your business have you been afraid to inspect? Name the wall you have been walking past without looking at. What do you think you will find — and what would change if you finally looked?"

Which of the four areas is most overdue for your honest assessment — offers, systems, client experience, or time? Drop it in the comments. Sunday's entry is the companion to this one — read both.
